Data Protection Law

The importance of data protection laws has increased significantly in almost all areas of life, particularly due to the Internet and technical progress in the collection and use of personal data. Data protection law is, however, scattered and can be found in many different regulations. Furthermore, the laws often date back to a time when the possibilities that exist today were unimaginable. There is a growing danger that enterprises are not or only partially compliant with the existing laws and thus are exposed to considerable risks of sanctions. This is all the more true because the data protection requirements must be met not only at the national but also the international level as soon as data flows leave national borders, which happens regularly in the Internet age. Data protection is therefore also an essential part of any compliance system.

We advise our clients on compliance with national and international data protection regulations, draft data protection contracts (e.g., for commissioned data processing), examine the latest technologies in terms of their compliance with data protection law and create internal company guidelines. The attorneys-at-law who specialize in data protection law work closely with colleagues from other areas of law, e.g., from labor law with regard to the processing of employee data and from medical law when it comes to patient data.
